Short geodesics in hyperbolic manifolds
Thursday, 5 December, 2013 - 14:00
Résumé :
It can be shown that for any dimension n, and any E>0, there exist closed hyperbolic n-manifolds whose shortest closed geodesic is at most E. In the construction I will describe, these turn out to give examples of non-arithmetic manifolds if E is small enough. In this talk I will focus on the construction and describe the volume dependence on E, returning to arithmeticity properties if time permits.
